A Letter To My Younger Self About Epilepsy

It’s been a long time coming since my last blog, and there is something I want ALL epilepsy warriors, young or old, to hear. After battling epilepsy and having seizures that just decided to get worse, take a look at what I would have told my younger self in preparation.

Hey Kyle,

You’re doing an amazing job so far here in the third grade! Making memories with friends that will last a lifetime is a great start, but something is coming your way that’s going to take you by storm. It will affect you both physically and mentally, along with all those you are close to. Here are a few tips:

  1. Keep Your Faith

    1. No matter how many seizures you have, or how bad they are, always keep your faith. Faith in that you will overcome this, and it’s always in God’s hands.

  2. Stay Positive

    1. No matter how many rough days you encounter, always find that inner voice of positivity. It’s what will help fight epilepsy a tad bit easier.

  3. Stay Strong

    1. You will want to give up numerous times. From bad seizures to weeks in the hospital. Stay strong, and just keep grinding on like your parents!

  4. Research, Research, Research

    1. Doctors know a lot of information, but it’s up to you to ask them questions about why I can’t take certain medicines or devices that could be a potential help. It’s all up to you.

  5. Don’t Ever Quit

    1. No matter how bad things get, always find a way to get back up, both mentally and physically. Don’t let epilepsy hold you back from living the life you want!

Keep enjoying the third grade! But when the time comes, all of this will come in handy. Oh, it’s very important to remember that both your family and friends will be your guiding light on certain days.

Sincerely,

Your Older Self
